Loco for Coco

Can I tell you about...Yutaka Sone. The other night, my BFF and partner in crime Christine Y. Kim invited me to go to his opening at the David Zwirner gallery ( www.davidzwirner.com) in Chelsea. The opening involved 3 different artists but Yutaka was my favorite. This is what Christine had to say about him: Yutaka Sone is a internationally celebrated artist from Japan. He plays with forms from rollercoasters and snowflakes to abstract compositions... in fiberglass, painting and other media. While his works are contemplative and sweet, his style is totally middle-aged-wealthy-cosmopolitan-woman-on-5th-Avenue-and-57th-Street!

Like many Japanese...he's obsessed with labels, Coco Chanel in particular. For the opening, he scoured NY city for the perfect Chanel outfit, including size 11 pumps! As you can see from the photo, he's quite a class act and relatively toned down compared to Christines' hot sexy ensemble. What brought them together was their obvious love for Coco. Christine was wearing a snowflake Chanel brooch and he shrieked when he saw it. I think he secretly wanted to snatch it off her jacket. I could see him lusting after it. I had to take a photo of them. I, of course, prefer Christine's white patent bag...and yes, it's mine. Of course!
He exhibited paintings and sculptures. The sculptures were crafted in clear lucite and the paintings had an Aspen Apres Ski theme. One especially appropriate and coincidental was a snowflake piece that kind of resembled Christine's brooch. Of course I had to take another photo of that.
We then rushed uptown to Bergdorfs for the Proenza Schouler cocktail party but we were too early so we ended up killing time at the bar at the Four Seasons hotel down the street. She had a Pinot Noir, I had a Silly Goose and shared mini Kobe beef burgers.
We were so chill by the end, we decided to skip the party and called it a night. There's always another party to attend and next time we'll come...fashionably late and be on time.

Hey, darling - what cute pics! I love them. Remember the pic with us and Mark Bradford at the Whitney Museum? I found it, and I love it too. I'm off to Mexico next week and will probably see Yutaka at Eduardo Sarabia's wedding! xoxxooxtine

Yutaka Sone looks a lot like Bobby Lee of MadTV dressed up as Connie Chung.

Looked like you guys had fun! I always love chi-chi gallery openings because everyone is so beautifully dressed. I have only been invited to a few but none as nice this one. The last one I went to was on a 5th floor walk-up loft in the Meatpacking District.

I'm drooling over that pin (and handbag) myself. Note to self: must get one of those handbags ASAP...
